The Artist's
Trevor C Curtis - Biography
My original training was as a structural engineer where I learnt how to produce technical drawings and the precision of engineering design. This technical approach has followed my work as a panoramic artist ever since, in that I strive for technical excellence which is artistically beautiful.
Although I am a self taught photographer I spent time early on in development of my art with commercial photographer Les Wise and through his teaching he emphasized the importance that composition plays in successful photographs and taught me fundamental photographic practices which I still use today some 35 years on. The quality of the light was of utmost value for him as a studio photographer and he constantly stressed how important it is to understand which light one likes to work with.
It is through my career as an engineer and more lately as an infrastructure developer that I have had the opportunity to travel the world and through that travel see the beauty of landscapes and cityscapes which is where the passion for panoramic photography came from. Landscapes have an inherent beauty for the panoramic photographer as the “letter box” view naturally fits the eyes view of the landscape vista. Cityscapes are an extension of my training and interest as an engineer and developer in the built environment but these vistas still produce beautiful panoramas which evoke emotions for the beauty of the built world against the natural world’s beauty of landscape photography.
I now reside outside of Redmond (the home of Microsoft) in the beautiful state of Washington in the Pacific North West of the USA which reminds me of my home in the south east of England (probably because it rains a lot here) and I am married to Catherine who also shares the passion for photography albeit in different genres, myself engrossed in the world of the 360 degree panorama and Catherine in the underwater world of marine photography. Both of us are avid scuba divers and travel the world searching for great places to photograph and scuba dive.
M. Catherine Curtis - Biography
Like Trevor my original training was not as a diver or photographer but as a high school teacher and as a professor at the Seattle University. Then after 20 years of teaching I changed direction in my career to the private sector but not away from education per se. I have spent the past 15 years in learning and development and curriculum design with companies such as Microsoft, Expedia and Amazon leading global teams in Instructional Design, Training Delivery and Learning Operations.
Some 18 years ago I discovered scuba diving and I fell in love with the underwater world and its beauty and serenity. I am a self-taught photographer in underwater techniques and post processing and have developed a passion for working strobe light and shadows to develop and depict the wonders of underwater life.
I am a true Washingtonian coming from the city of Spokane in the eastern Washington but now reside outside of Redmond in the beautiful westside of the Pacific North West. I am married to Trevor who also shares the passion for photography, I love the underwater world and sharing what I see with others, while Trevor loves the technical aspects of the beauty and he shares this through his 360 degree panoramas.
Both of us are avid scuba divers and enjoy traveling the world searching for great places to photograph and scuba dive.
